Mansoura University Animal Care and Use Committee (MU-ACUC)

• The Mansoura University Animal Care and Use Committee (MU-ACUC) ensures that all ethical issues arising in connection with research activities involving animals are identified and reviewed and that the use of animals, its products or genetic material can be ethically justified.

• Appropriate decisions are taken to ensure that all procedures are conducted to the standards of institutional regulation and best practice and in accordance with the principals of the 3 Rs: Replacement, Reduction and Refinement.

• MU-ACUC reviews process includes protocols of work, accommodation and care of animals, and the training of those who use animals, in order to support the delivery of the highest quality animal science and animal welfare.

• MU-ACUC members are committed to ensuring that the research activities in the University are carried out to the highest standards and in a way which respects the dignity, rights, and welfare of subjects, and which minimizes risk to subjects, researchers, or community.

I- Mission:

The mission of Mansoura University Animal Care and Use Committee (MU-ACUC) is to conduct all animal-related research at Mansoura University in accordance with the ethics and standards of dealing with research animals, and in a manner that ensures the safety of researchers and research sample, and to apply biological and environmental safety standards. This can be done through:

• Ensure that all ethical issues arising in connection with Mansoura University research activities involving animals are identified and reviewed and that the use of animals or its products can be ethically justified.

• Ensure that the welfare of animals in research are protected and consistent with applicable legal, ethical, institutional, and national guidelines.

• Facilitate high quality animal-based research at Mansoura University.

• Support researchers through the ethics review process, from the preparation of a protocol submission to the review of research and any subsequent requests for approval of amendments.

• Provide an Ethics Advisory Consultation for staff.

• Develop and implement policies and procedures in compliance with national and institutional guidelines.

• Provide seminars, presentations and workshops on research ethics and related areas.

II- Relationship to the University administration:

• The MU-ACUC reports to the vice president for Postgraduate studies, Research and Cultural affairs.
